A surveillance audit of environmental management system (EMS) compliance with the international standard MS ISO 14001: 2015 and the Russian standard GOST R ISO 14001-2016 has been completed at the Balakovo NPP.

EMS is a part of the enterprise resource planning system (ERP) and aims to reduce the environmental impact.

‘Originally, the Balakovo NPP certified its environmental management system in 2005. Since then, audits have consistently confirmed compliance with existing standards,’ said Mr. Feld, auditor from the BSI international certification institution (Germany). ‘This shows that the management and personnel of the nuclear power plant are highly scrupulous about environmental issues. Therefore, I can safely recommend residents of the city and the region to be confident about the Balakovo NPP. Environmental protection at this plant is of highest priority.

The Balakovo NPP has been awarded with the title of the Russian Environmental Protection Leader for the 13th time. This demonstrates its commitment to an environmental policy of setting objects and targets assuring the continual improvement of environmental performance.

Surveillance audits of environmental management system compliance with international and Russian standards are annual at the Balakovo NPP. They all result in renewal of certificates. Every three years a recertification audit is conducted, when the plant is issued with new certificates. The next one is expected in 2023.
