WANO Corporate Peer Review has been completed at Leningrad NPP

The group of experts of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has accomplished their work at Leningrad NPP within the framework of Corporate Peer Review held by WANO in Rosenergoaom Concern OJSC.

The review is held in five branches: corporate governance and management, corporate supervision and control, corporate engineering and technical support, human resources and communications. The experts will define the fields for Rosenergoatom subdivisions corporate interrelation improvement with the purpose of providing of the NPPs safe and reliable operation.

At Leningrad NPP WANO experts got acquainted with the results of the equipment modernization organized, attended the power units production objects and as well conducted a series of colloquiums and interviews with LNPP senior and middle managers and operating personnel.

According to the Head of the expert group Jean-Marie Badgio (representative of WANO Coordinate Centre, France), corporate reviews, like any peer reviews WANO organizes, have a common principle of voluntariness and are held due to the operating organization’s application. “Up to present, WANO has not carried out so large a number of corporate inspections, compared with that of a total number. But recently we come to the conclusion that corporate reviews are a part of our responsibility as members of World Nuclear Society”, Jean-Marie Badgio said.

After visiting LNPP the group of experts will have to perform the same work at Kola NPP and the work, coordinated with the other groups, in Rosenergoatom Concern Central Office. 

The results of the missions at the nuclear plants will be used for the preparation of the Corporate Peer Review concluding report, including the enumeration of the regions for the sake of the improvement of positive practices in Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC activity, which will be passed over to the Concern Administration in June of 2011.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the bank of the Gulf of Finland in Sosnovy Bor city, 80 km westward from Saint Petersburg. LNPP was the first in the country to operate RBMK-1000 reactors (graphite-uranium pressure-tube thermal reactors). The NPP operates 4 power units with electric capacity of 1,000 MW each.
