The Rostov NPP: installing of new modules for turbine condenser started at power unit ?1

The first two modules of the turbine condenser, each weighing more than 80 tons, were given in the area of installation of the power unit ?1 of the Rostov nuclear power plant on October 6, 2015.

Recall, that the power unit ?1 of the Rostov nuclear power plant is now in preventive planned repair (PPR).

Work performed on the turbine condenser are done in the frameworks of modernization with replacing of copper containing condenser tubing on tubular portion with titanium alloy. This will improve the reliability and efficiency of the equipment, will increase its service life.

These works required dismantling of the pipes, accessories and electrical equipment, which is on the way of installation of the new capacitors with a total weight of 1,600 tons.

To do this a technological aperture area of more than a hundred square meters was made in  the machine room wall and a significant strengthening of the special platforms in the area of installation of the discharge channel and in the turbine hall from mark 0.00 in the working area was performed. Unique works on replacement of the turbine condenser began on September 24.

The condenser is designed to cool the turbine exhaust steam and enters the turbine system of circulating water supply.

The power units ?2 and ?3 are working in project mode at the moment in accordance with the dispatch schedule load.

The radiation background at the plant and the surrounding area is unchanged and is at the level, which corresponds to the normal operation of power and do not exceed the natural background values.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit ?1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit ?2 – in December, 2010. The power unit ?3 physical launch was in November 2014, energy launch - in December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
