The Rostov nuclear power plant began preparations for the unique operation - replacing of the turbine condenser. This operation will take place beyond the scheduled overhaul of power unit ?1.

Technological hole was made in the engine room through which the equipment dismantled for time of operation will be removed and an old capacitor will be changed on a new one.

Deputy Chief Engineer of the Rostov NPP for overhaul Ivan Malakhov said: "In addition to the upcoming dismantling of the existing pre-condenser it is required to dismantle the auxiliary equipment, piping and electrical equipment, which are on the way of installation of the new capacitor. A significant strengthening of special platforms in the area of installation of drainage canals was done for provision of replacing capacitors on the power unit ?1 and a partial dismantling of the wall panels was conducted in the engine room".

This operation will take place beyond the framework of modernization program and will be performed during scheduled overhaul, which begins on September 15th. According to preliminary information, the planned duration of the repair works in view of replacement of the turbine condensers will be 85 days. In order to optimize the timing of stopping of the power unit divisional PSR project was implemented within the Production System "Rosatom" at the Rostov NPP, which goal is identification and elimination of non-productive time lost during the works for replacement of the turbine condensers.

Replacing the turbine condenser at the power unit ?1 will be carried out by personnel of contractor LLC "VDMU", which has extensive experience in modernization programs at the Rostov NPP. Specialists of the company mounted a similar condenser at the power unit ?2 and ?3 during construction as well as made replacement of two condensers of turbo feed pump at the power unit ?1.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010. The power unit ?3 physical launch was in November 2014m energy launch was in December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
