Students of ecological school visited Leningrad NPP

On April 8, 2011 students of ecological classes of secondary school of Krakolye settlement, Kingiseppsky district of Leningrad region visited Leningrad NPP. The information visit was organized by LNPP Public Information Centre at the initiative of the Community Council of Rosatom State Corporation.

Representatives of the following LNPP subdivisions, which activity was of the most interest for the visitors, were invited to speak to future enrollees in the form of a seminar: HR Department, Environmental Protection Department, External Dosimetry Laboratory of Radiological Safety Department, Public Information Centre and LNPP Youth Organization.

The specialists told the students about LNPP programs on work with young personnel, explained the principle of nuclear power plant operation, in details discussed the issues of LNPP radiation and environmental safety and presented environmental advantages of nuclear power industry. Basic principles of NPP operation management and equipment operation were demonstrated to the students by the full-scale simulator of the unit control room (FSS UCR). At the same place the students got a unique opportunity to evaluate the work of FSS UCR in case of a preset off-nominal situation.

The next stage of the event was a visit to the Nuclear Energy Institute (branch of St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University in Sosnovy Bor city) – educational institution that prepares staff for the nuclear power industry. Senior students acquainted with the main areas of training, the level of entrance examinations, training quality, moneyed assistance to students, the way students’ housing problems are solved, extra-curricular recreational activities for students are organized and further employment of graduates. Lecture halls, a language laboratory, IT classroom, library, canteen as well as classrooms, fitted with equipment at which students trained in nuclear specialties were demonstrated to the visitors.

“I liked it very much,” - one of the seniors shared his impressions after the excursion. “I study in the 9th grade, but already know the place I will enter. My neighbor works at the plant, and in future I also hope to become a LNPP operator”.
