According to the tradition, on May 13 the staff of the enterprises and organizations, administration and municipal services of Desnogorsk – about thousand people – went out for all city voluntary cleaning. More than 600 employees of Smolensk nuclear plant and its public organizations – the veterans’ and young atomists’ committee – participated in the cleaning of the streets, yards, city parks and the reservoir embankment.

The plant veterans’ committee amateur actors toured the entire city with their concert program, and attended all the job sites. By means of their songs, they created a festive spirit.

It was noted at the operational headquarters under the chairmanship of Smolensk NPP Director, that the voluntary cleaning had been held in a consistent and friendly way. The people had been working enthusiastically for the benefit of the native city. Smolensk atomists were interested not only in the nuclear plant being an ecologically pure enterprise, but the city as well.

“Today the voluntary cleaning in Desnogorsk, with all the city enterprises participation, has been organized for the fifth time. The nuclear plant workers have worked hard and made Desnogorsk clean and tidy. Everybody had a festive mood; the people were working with inspiration and smiled. It is noticeable that the people’s attitude towards their native city has changed for the better, and the municipal services work more effectively. This proves the fact that we are on the right way. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the voluntary cleaning, by our joint efforts we make the city clean and comfortable, and all this is done for our children, for the next generation”, Smolensk NPP Director Andrey Petrov said.

The organization of mass all city ecological voluntary cleanings, started after a long-term break by Smolensk NPP staff in 2007, has become a good tradition in Desnogorsk.
