Smolensk NPP: power unit No.3 has been shut down for scheduled major overhaul

On April 10, power unit No.3 of Smolensk NPP was shut down for scheduled major overhaul, which will last till July 13, 2011.

At present, SNPP operates power unit No.2 with capacity of 1,000 megawatt. The pre-commissioning works are being finished at power unit No.1, the unit is being prepared for commissioning.

For 11 days of April there has been generated 454 million kWh of electric power. Since the beginning of the year, there has been totally generated 4 billion 883 million kWh of electric power, which exceeds the target figure by 126 million kWh.

The radiation background at the industrial site of Smolensk NPP and in the adjacent territory is not changed and corresponds to the natural environmental values.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
