Rostov NPP: power ?3 accepted into commercial operation

Director of Capital Investments SC "Rosatom" Gennady Sakharov signed permission for commissioning of power unit ? 3 of the Rostov NPP on September 17, 2015.

Director of the Rostov NPP Andrey Salnikov, commenting this important event, said that it was the result of a colossal work of builders, designers, commissioning and maintenance services and organizations, nuclear power plant staff. "The team honorably coped with the task of the state - he said. - Power generation started earlier at the power unit ?3 of the Rostov NPP - two months ahead of the planned date. During this time it was generated 293 million kWh of electricity. And today we are worthy - power unit put into commercial operation - meeting 70-year anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry", - he stressed.

"Serial construction of power units is carried out at the site of the Rostov nuclear power plant construction. Not so long ago, we put power unit ?2 into commercial operation and there is still - power unit ?4", - said Andrey Salnikov.

Recall, that the construction of the power unit ?3 started in 2009. The Head of Don Interregional Territorial Administration for Supervision of Nuclear and Radiation Safety (Rostekhnadzor) Viktor Katkov signed opinion that the constructed power unit ?3 of the Rostov NPP meets technical regulations and project documentation on September 14, 2015.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010. The power unit ?3 physical launch was in November 2014, energy launch - in December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
