Rostov NPP: power units Nos. 3 and 4 construction is performed according to the schedules

A regular meeting of operational department on power unit Nos. 3 and 4 constructions, where the basic trends of the work in the first quarter of 2011 were defined, was held in Rostov NPP.

Opening the meeting, Valery Limarenko, the Project Leader and NIAEP OJSC Director, noted: “2011 is full of events important for NIAEP: we are to perform Kalinin NPP unit power No.4 start-up, the degree of Rostov-3 readiness is also important – we pass over to performing a number of operations of highest essentiality at the stage of nuclear object construction, first of all, this is preparation and mounting of the reactor cover in its position”.

According to Alexander Palamarchuk, Rostov NPP UKS Director, this year special attention must be paid to engineering. “Today it is extremely important to comply with the construction terms. The secret of success is simple – realistic plans building and their strict observance”, - Alexander Palamarchuk underlined.

In the first quarter of 2011 three controlling events are planned to happen in power unit No.3 of RoNPP, and all of them are related to turbine department of the main cover. This is the mounting of bridge crane with the capacity of 200 tones in its position, deaerator tanks mounting in their legs, wall fence of the extension of electrical devices stack. In power unit No.3 reactor compartment the closest controlling event is scheduled in April: RC walls will reach 19.3 mark.

The reactor compartment contour walls construction must be accomplished from 4.2 mark to 0.0, and the mounting of special sewage tray on 4.2 mark, within the same accounting period on power unit No.4. At present the works on the pile foundations of electrical devices stack are carried out in the turbine hall.

Besides, at the meeting special attention was paid to the questions of voltage supply for power unit No.3 own needs (according to the construction schedule – August, 2012). This is one of the key stages allowing to perform commissioning works and the tests on technologic systems and the equipment of the power unit under construction. Recently, the specialists of NIAEP OJSC have sent the necessary documents – the project “Solution on installation of own needs reserved transformers at Rostov NPP power units Nos. 3 and 4” for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Rostov NPP and Rostov NPP UKS approval”.

Anatoly Vyazmikin, Rostov NPP UKS Chief Inspector, reported about safety of the works performed at present time. In particular, he noted that the checks of labour, fire and manufacturing safety compliance are held regularly at the sites of power units Nos. 3 and 4 by the Inspection department of capital construction management.  According to the check results, meetings on labour protection are held in cooperation with the heads of contracting agencies labour safety departments, which, as the practice shows, is an effective means of engineering works high quality provision.

Summarizing the results of January, Vyacheslav Makhonin, NIAEP OJSC First Deputy Director and head of Volgodonsk representative office, noted that all the works on RoNPP power units Nos.3 and 4 constructions are performed in accordance with the schedule. “Only in January we have perfromed over 300 works simultaneously at the third power unit. More than 50 of them are newly begun. 40 accommodations are ready for the equipment installation. At present we are passing over these objects to the customer”, - Vyacheslav Makhonin stated.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. Power unit No.1 which was put into commercial operation in 2001 has the operated VVER-1000-type pressurized water reactor with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Construction of power unit No. 2 was resumed on March 18, 2006. The energy start-up of power unit No 2 was performed on March 18, 2010. The permit for commercial operation was signed on December 10, 2010.
