Rostov NPP: power unit ?1 prepared for preventative overhaul

The power unit ?1 of the Rostov NPP is planned to be placed into preventative average repair on September 15. In accordance with the approved schedule the average repair of the power unit ?1 of the Rostov NPP and the application filed by the United Dispatch Administration of the South, planned repair time is 85 days with the deadline for completion of works on 8 December 2015. Duration of idle of the unit is explained by the large volume of works on modernization (in total more than 20 works of different labor intensity and duration will be done).

As part of the planned outage average repair there will be an overhaul of the reactor plant with partial refueling and performing of routine repairs of basic equipment according to the annual schedule of repairs.

The most laborious and time consuming operation to determine the duration of downtime of power unit repairs is replacement of the turbine condenser, it is to be performed by the contractor Ltd. "VDMU". Its staff has mounted similar condensers at power unit ?2 and ?3 during their construction. The uniqueness of the work at the power unit ?1 is that at the time of installation of the new condenser the power unit will be operating and in addition to the upcoming dismantling of the existing pre-condenser it is required to dismantle the pipes, accessories and electrical equipment, which are on the way of installation of the new condenser.

In order to replace the condenser at the power unit ?1 a significant reinforcement was done in the area of the installation site of the discharge channel and the turbine hall at mark 0.00 in the working area, as well as a partial dismantling of the wall panels in the engine room.

For the first time cable-disc production machines BRAUN Maschinenfabrik will be used for the dismantling of the old condenser at the Rostov NPP and for mounting - horizontal displacement hydraulic systems.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010. The power unit ?3 physical launch was in November 2014, energy launch - in December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
