Rostov NPP: power unit ?1 displayed into scheduled overhaul

The power unit ?1 of the Rostov NPP was stopped for scheduled preventive average repair (PAR) on September 15, 2015 at 23:42. Beyond the PAR it is planned to do average repair of the reactor plant with refueling and performing of routine repairs of the main equipment.

In accordance with the approved schedule and the application filed in the United Dispatch Administration of the South, scheduled repair time will be 85 days. This is due to a large volume of works on modernization - more than 20 works of different labor, intensity and duration.

According to the Deputy Chief Engineer for repair of Rostov NPP Ivan Malakhov, equipment specifications and design values are being checked now.

"There are ahead the most laborious and time consuming operation, which determines the duration of unit’s idle in repairs - replacement of the turbine condenser, it is to be performed by contractor Ltd. "VDMU". The staff of this organization has mounted a similar condenser at power unit ?2 and ?3 during their construction. The uniqueness of the work on the power unit ?1 is that at the time of installation of the new condenser the power unit will be operating and requires it not only dismantling of the exhaust condenser, but also of the pipelines and auxiliary electrical equipment, which are on the way of installation of the new condenser", - said the Deputy Chief Engineer for repair.

A significant special strengthening of platforms in the area of installation and in the turbine hall at mark 0.00 was performed in order to replace the condenser at the power unit ?1 of the RoNPP as well as partial dismantling of wall panels in engine room.

Cable-disc production machines BRAUN Maschinenfabrik will be used for the first time for dismantling of the old condenser at the Rostov NPP and for mounting horizontal displacement hydraulic systems will be used.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010. The power unit ?3 physical launch was in November 2014, energy launch - in December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
