Rostov NPP: Don Parliamentarians have checked the nuclear plant safety

Director of Rostov NPP Alexander Palamarchuk met the guests. They visited unit and central control rooms and the turbine hall of power unit No. 2, examined the construction sites of power units Nos. 3 and 4 and the center of radiation environment automated control system (ASKRO), where they got acquainted with the indexes and compared them with the readings of the dosimeter, which they used for measurements during all the time of the delegation presence at the nuclear plant.

Within the framework of the visit to the plant, a meeting on the issue of Rostov NPP operation reliability state and safety was held. The plant guests were interested in the issues of the increase of electric power production, environmental and technological safety of production, equipment modernization, and employees’ occupational safety.

Having got acquainted with the enterprise, Chairman of Rostov Region Legislative Assembly Viktor Deryabkin noted: “The impressions and feelings are fascinating. We came here with the aim to see everything with our own eyes: how our plant in Don works, in what way its protection is provided. And today, with all my responsibility, I can tell my family and all the region inhabitants – you can sleep peacefully. This powerful production is in reliable hands, and here everything is calculated by tens of steps ahead”.

Director of Rostov NPP Alexander Palamarchuk is sure that the policy of the enterprise openness and readiness for an honest and efficient dialogue brings its results. “Those who have seen how the enterprise is working with their own eyes, understand that a nuclear plant is a highly technological and secure production, The visits to the nuclear plant like that are not only illustrative for the work of the largest manufacture in the city, but also make the connections between atomists and government stronger. The collaboration between the nuclear plant administration and Rostov NPP Legislative branch was and still remains the fundament of all the district economic and social stability and power security guarantee”.

Open public inspections are held at all the open operating Russian nuclear plants. They are organized at the initiatives of Rosatom State Corporation Management and are aimed at demonstrating to public representatives and journalists a high level of safety and reliability systems of modern Russian power units.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The nuclear plant has two operating power units of VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1000 MW. Power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No 2 – in December, 2010. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 have been constructed since 2009.
