Novovoronezh NPP successfully passed an emergency response drill.

The emergency response drill with the participation of operating personnel of power unit No. 4 through shifts was held at Novovoronezh NPP on April 5, 2011.

The operating personnel worked out conditional actions at operating equipment in the course of conditional non-design basis accident.

NPP operating personnel, whose work related to emergency response drill subject, manpower and fire department technical means were involved in the emergency response drill.

According to Novovoronezh NPP training administrative manager Chief Engineer Aleksey Shchukin, through shift operating personnel dealt successfully with the set task. The conditional accident was eliminated within the set time-limit.

The operating personnel trainings are held at Russian NPPs in accordance with the schedule.

Currently, Novovoronezh NPP power units No 3 and No 4 are operating in standard conditions, power unit No 5 was shut down for scheduled preventive maintenance in September, 2010 for work performance on operating life prolongation.

The radiation situation at NPP is normal. Radiation background average values in the populated area of 30 - km zone around Novovoronezh NPP comply with the level of natural background values typical of Central European part of Russia

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don River, 42 km to the south of Voronezh. This is the first Russian NPP with VVER-type reactors (pressurized water reactors of the vessel type using light pressurized water). Each of the five plant reactors is the main one Р a prototype of serial power-producing reactors: power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, power units Nos. 3, 4 with the VVER-440 reactors and power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. 

The first power unit was started up in 1964, the second Р in 1969, the third - in 1971, the fourth Р in 1972, the fifth Р in 1980. At present three power units are in operation (power units Nos. 1, 2 were shut down in 1984 and in 1990 respectively).
