Novovoronezh NPP plans to held emergency response exercise for operational staff on September 11

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant plans to held general emergency response fire training in order to develop practical skills of interaction of operating personnel shifts, enterprise management and fire brigade in a complicated emergency situation at the station on September 11, 2015.

The training participants: operating staff of shifts 1,2,3,4 and main electrical circuitry of the Novovoronezh NPP, involving firemen of FPS Emergency Situations Ministry and operational group of engineering support personnel shifts.

Training is conducted beyond emergency drills to contingent personnel actions and main circuit blocks on workplaces and practice actions on extinguishing fire by units of FPS Emergency Situations Ministry.

Conducting training is an integral part of safe operation of any nuclear power plant. Its goal is to develop actions for protection of nuclear power plant staff and population.

The Novovoronezh NPP power units will work normally during training. There will be no interference into their work related to training and it has not been provided and will not be held.

Administration of the Novovoronezh NPP refers to Novovoronezh and Voronezh region residents and request them to show understanding and to remain calm.

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one Р a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second Р in 1969, third Р in 1971, fourth Р 1972, fifth Р 1979. There are three power units (power units No.1, 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively) in work at the moment.

Average values of radiation background correspond to level of natural background values in the Central European Part of Russia in settlements of a 30-km zone round the Novovoronezhskaya nuclear power plant.
