Leningrad NPP: power unit No. 4 has been disconnected from the grid

On April 8, 2011 at 3:47 p.m. (Moscow time), power unit No.4 of Leningrad NPP was disconnected from the grid.

Power unit No. 4 had been under scheduled major overhaul since February 12, 2011. On April 6, according to the pre-commissioning program, it was connected to the grid with one turbine generator TG-8. Turbine generator No.7 is still under repair.

During acceptance and commissioning works, there were found signs of leakage in the constant-working area of one of the pipelines of the multiple forced circulation contour (MFCC). In accordance with process regulations, operating personnel shut down the power unit in order to implement corrections. The power reduction and power unit shutdown were implemented in accordance with the standard procedure.

At present, Leningrad NPP operates three power units with total capacity of 3,000 mW.

The radiation background in the area of Leningrad NPP location and in the adjacent territory corresponds to the natural background values Р 0.13 microsieverts per hour.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the bank of the Gulf of Finland in Sosnovy Bor city, 80 km to the west of Saint Petersburg. LNPP is a plant that operates RBMK-1000 reactors (graphite-uranium pressure-tube thermal reactors). The NPP operates 4 power units with electric capacity of 1,000 MW each.

Information of automated system of radiation situation control in the area of LNPP location and in the 30-km control area is available in the site www.lnpp.ru.
