Leningrad NPP joined the All-Russian Nuclear Bike Ride 2015

Employees of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom", Leningrad Region), ClassAtom students from secondary school ?1 in Sosnovy Bor and students of the Polytechnic lyceum ?36 participated in the "Nuclear Bike Ride", dedicated to the Day of Nuclear Worker, on September 19, 2015.
 
The race was organized by the Leningrad NPP and the Information Center for Nuclear Energy (St. Petersburg). It was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory Day and the 70th anniversary of the nuclear industry and therefore the route laid through military-historical objects of Oranienbaum bridgehead and adjacent areas of the nuclear industry of Sosnovy Bor.

Participants of the bike ride traveled from the building of ASCRS, visiting pillboxes constructed in 1941 for the second line of defense at the bridgehead on the river Kovashm saw the railway station Kalishche, operating in the Great Patriotic War and learned the history of the villages Rakopezhi and Dolgovo, commemorating defenders of the bridgehead on the fraternal burial.

Data were obtained in the range of 0,01-0,16 mSv / h at fifteen measuring points along the route, which corresponds to the natural radiation background of the area.

"I really liked the course, I learned many interesting facts and we were lucky with the weather, - worker of shop TAI at the Leningrad NPP Fanur Kalimiullin said after the bike ride. - It is necessary to organize such events more often, supporting bicycle rest. And in general, it would be nice to revive Eperina bicycle lane, and then we could ride on a bicycle to work year-round. Amount of health people will increase and automobiles will no longer be stuck in traffic".

Recall, that the bicycle race was held in the framework of the All-Russian action implemented in several cities of Russia (Vladimir, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Zarechny, Snezhinsk, etc.).

The Leningrad nuclear power plant is the JSC "Rosenergoatom Concern" branch. The station is located in the city Sosnovy Bor in 80 km to the west of St. Petersburg on the bank of the Finland Gulf. The Leningrad NPP is the country's first station with RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium - graphite nuclear reactors of channel type on thermal neutrons). 4 power units with electric capacity of 1000 MWt each operate at the nuclear power plant.
