Rosenergoatom: The share of residents advocating for the active development of nuclear energy increased by 10.4% over the year

The independent analytical agency "IMAGE-FACTOR" published the results of a large-scale sociological study of the population of the regions where Russian nuclear power plants are located (branches of Rosenergoatom, the Electric Power Division of the State Corporation Rosatom).

The survey was conducted in 12 regions of our country - in Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Kursk, Leningrad, Murmansk, Rostov, Saratov, Sverdlovsk, Smolensk and Tver regions, as well as in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (CHAO) and in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). In total, about 11 thousand people from 18 to 60 years old from more than 60 Russian cities took part in it.

The experts studied the social mood in the regions where the nuclear industry enterprises operate, its perception by residents and their attitude towards the activities of nearby nuclear power plants. As noted in the agency's report, the general attitude of residents to nuclear energy is characterized by a significant preponderance of positive assessments over negative ones.

In general, the population of the regions of presence approves the use of nuclear energy as one of the ways to provide the country with electricity, and believes that this branch of the energy industry should be actively developed. Thus, over the past year, the proportion of residents expressing an opinion on the need for the active development of the peaceful atom has increased by 10.4%.

The average value of the level of support for the nuclear industry in all regions in which the surveys were conducted was 87.3%, which is 3.7% higher than the average regional value obtained from the results of the survey of the previous year.

At the same time, residents of near-station cities express more significant support for the nuclear industry compared to the population of the regions as a whole: the average indicator for these cities was 92.4% against 82.2% of the average indicator for the regions. This, among other things, is due to the fact that in satellite cities nuclear power plants are perceived as industries that often have a dominant influence on the development of the social sphere and infrastructure of the location.

When considering the issue of future energy sources, residents, first of all, note two types of energy - nuclear and alternative. This tandem has already become a classic for the entire time of diagnosing social moods.

Today, on average, almost 51% of respondents in the regions advocate for nuclear energy (excluding station cities), and about 45% are for alternative energy.

The population of near-station cities sees a greater prospect in nuclear energy, where 72.2% of respondents voted for it, while alternative energy was chosen by almost 2 times fewer respondents - only 35%.

Today, the Government of the Russian Federation and relevant departments, including the State Corporation Rosatom, pay great attention to the socio-economic development of the regions of the Russian Federation, on which the well-being and quality of life of each Russian family directly depends, including those in the regions where nuclear enterprises are located. Providing the citizens of the country with comfortable living conditions for is one of the key tasks outlined by the President of Russia. Thanks to the implementation of the Federal Project on the Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment, the appearance of Russian cities is radically changing: spaces are being created for interesting and useful leisure activities, walks, recreation for the whole family, and sports. Enterprises of the State Corporation Rosatom take an active part in this work.
