Kursk NPP-2: the transport portal is ready for the installation of equipment for the reactor system of the 1st power unit

The transport portal of the first power unit of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction is fully ready for operation. This is an important element of the transport and technological scheme necessary for the delivery of heavy equipment (reactor vessel, steam generators) inside the containment of the reactor building.

“The transport portal installation operations at the Kursk NPP-2 construction site can be called unique. For the first time, pre-assembly of the elements was performed, after which the finished structure was installed in the permanent position. While earlier, at other nuclear power plants, the portal was mounted element by element. The new approach made it possible to significantly reduce the installation time,” Aleksey Buldygin, head of the capital construction department of Kursk NPP-2 noted the features of the work performed.

The height of the entire structure of the portal is 27.5 meters, the total weight is 340 tons.

The portal is connected to the transport gateway of the reactor building using a rail track. A transport trolley with a carrying capacity of 400 tons has been installed on this track, which will deliver equipment from the portal to the containment area for its further installation at regular locations.

“Thanks to the well-coordinated work of the employees of the subsidiary construction organizations of the Engineering Division, it was possible to timely prepare for further work the transport portal of the first power unit of Kursk NPP-2. This will make it possible to proceed with the installation of heavy equipment, which, according to the project, should be located in the hermetic shell of the reactor compartment – the reactor vessel, the main circulation pipeline, steam generators and pressure compensator," said Oleg Shperle, vice president, project director for the construction of the Kursk NPP.

The readiness of the portal is the result of the joint work of three organizations involved in the construction site: Trest RosSEM, NIKIMT-Atomstroy and Energospetsmontazh.

The main key event at the construction site of the Kursk NPP-2, the installation of the reactor vessel of the first power unit, is scheduled for June this year.

The construction of power units 1 and 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 is performed as part of the federal project "Design and construction of reference power units of nuclear power plants" of the Integrated Program "Development of equipment, technologies and scientific research in the sphere of the use of atomic energy in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024".
