Novovoronezh NPP was visited by the representatives of the Egyptian nuclear power

The representatives of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) of the Arab Republic of Egypt made a working trip to Novovoronezh NPP.

The goal of the foreign delegation was to get insight into the work progress at the power unit No 2 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 (power unit No 7 of NVNPP).

Egyptian nuclear specialists visited the site of the pre-commissioning power unit. The specialists of Novovoronezh NPP told the foreign colleagues about the present state of the object, peculiarities of operation and physical protection of VVER-1200 design of Generation 3+.

The guests visited turbine and reactor buildings of the innovative power unit, as well as the Training Centre of NV NPP where the training of Russian nuclear specialists and employees of the nuclear power plants of the countries-partners of Rosatom is carried out.

In 2015 Russia and Egypt signed the inter-governmental agreement on construction of El Dabaa NPP. The project consists of 4 power units with VVER-1200 reactor. The contract for designing of delivery and construction of NPP was signed in 2016. In December, 2017 the act on commencement of commercial contracts on construction of El Dabaa NPP was signed. The commissioning is scheduled for 2026.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of the largest Division of Rosatom State Corporation – Electric Power Division). The Plant is situated on the River Don bank 42 km South of Voronezh. This is the first NPP of Russia with VVER type reactors (Water-Water Power Reactors of containment type with water under pressure). Three reactors of the Plant are the main ones – the prototypes of the serial power reactors. The first power unit was commissioned in 1964, the second one - in 1969, the third one – in 1971, the fourth one – in 1972, and the fifth one – in 1980.

The power units No 1 and No 2 were shut down in 1984 and 1990, respectively. The power unit No 3 was shut down in 2016 for the decommissioning events. The power unit No 4 was shut down for modernization works. The power unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 was commissioned on 27 February, 2017. The power unit No 2 is in the stage of commissioning works.
