Rostov NPP: “I am impressed with the safety management technology at the Plant”, Ambassador of India to Russia Pankaj Saran

On 16 March, 2018, a delegation headed by Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation Mr. Pankaj Saran visited Rostov NPP.

During the visit, it inspected power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP. While at the main control room the Plant Manager Andrey Salnikov noted, “Security is our key priority, and we are constantly on our way to improvement. Today the power unit No 4 operates at 35% capacity. We are at the stage of physical testing. Recently, our reactor unit has reached 75% of its capacity; and we plan to get to 100% in May.”

The diplomats visited the turbine house of the 4th power unit, as well as the Plant’s Information Center, where they got acquainted with the activities and key divisions of Rosatom State Corporation.

At the end of the visit, the Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation Mr. Pankaj Saran stated, “I am very impressed with the safety management technology at Rostov NPP. The Plant’s fourth unit is filled with the latest technology. I'm glad that I managed to visit Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.” It was his first visit to a Russian nuclear power plant.

The diplomat also noted the close cooperation between Russia and India in the area of peaceful atom. “We closely cooperate with Russia and Kundankulam NPP; and this is the best illustration of that. Our partnership with Russia has continued for many decades. This is the key direction of cooperation between our countries and we have plans for the future. I am very optimistic about it”, the Ambassador said.

Rostov NPP is the branch of the Rosenergoatom Concern JSC (a part of the Electric Energy Division – the largest division of Rosatom State Corporation). The enterprise is located at the shore of Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13 km away from the town of Volgodonsk. The NPP operates the reactors of VVER-1000 type with the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The power unit No 1 was put into industrial operation in 2001, No 2 – in 2010, No 3 – in September, 2015. The power unit No 4 was started up in February, 2018.
