Smolensk NPP-2 construction will attract about 300 billion rubles of direct investments to the country’s budget

The preliminary business calculations show that Smolensk NPP-2 construction will attract about 300 billion rubles of direct investments and will provide a significant number of work places.

A General scheme of electric power objects up to 2035 has been recently approved by the Order of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev. Two power units of SNPP-2 with VVER-TOI reactors with total capacity of 2510 mW are among new power units planned for construction.

According to the General scheme, from 2026 to 2030 it is planned to construct SNPP-2 power units by the most up-to-date Russian design that provides the high level of safety and technical and economical factors instead of retired capacity of operating Smolensk NPP.

“The construction of Smolensk NPP-2 is the future of Desnogorsk and the whole region, this provides an economic revival, new work places, greater investment inflow into the development of all spheres of life”, SNPP Plant Manager Pavel Lubenskiy is sure.

At the present time the preparation work for SNPP-2 power units’ construction is in progress. Earlier the Order of the RF Government on the transfer of the site of the future Smolenk NPP-2 from the timber fund to the industrial land category was issued. These 400 ha of lands is 6 km far from operating power units of Smolensk NPP, on the territory of Roslavl Region. Rosenergoatom Concern as the legal body has a right to buy them out from the state or take them in a long-term lease.

It is to be recalled that the 1st and the 2nd power units of operating Smolensk NPP were approved to be ready for work for another 15 years of prolonged period of time.

“In 2018 we will carry out the full-scale modernization of the 3rd power unit. Then, we will have to provide the readiness for commissioning of replacement capacity when it will be necessary. At the moment the plan of action developed at SNPP with amendments is under consideration in Rosenergoatom Concern’s Subsidiary on Implementation of Capital Projects”, the Deputy Director – the Head of Capital Construction Department of Smolensk NPP Sergey Gromov said.

The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The SNPP annually issues on the average about 20 billion kilowatts hours of the electric power into country power supply system, that constitutes about 13% of the energy, developed in «Rosenergoatom Concern», and more than 80% of the Smolensk region energy, developed by the power entities.Round the clock telephone-answering machine works and obtains information about the work of nuclear power station in the social information Center of the Smolensk nuclear power plant.
