Rostov NPP: pipeline flushing has started at the standby diesel power plant of the starting unit No 4

The final stage of works before the first turn-on of the standby diesel power plant (SDPP) has started at Rostov NPP’s power unit No 4 under construction.

“After the completion of assembly works it is necessary to flush inner diesel pipelines. In order to carry out the SDPP system flushing the acceptance of the required oil was executed. The flushing lasts for 2-3 weeks. During this time it is necessary to flush the inner and the intermediate circuits, the fuel system and proceed to the first diesel turn-on”, the Head of Reactor Shop of the Phase II of Rostov NPP Oleg Vysotskiy noted.

The flushing works are carried out by Energospetsmontazh PJSC contractor under the counselor control of the specialists from the Reactor Shop of the Phase II of Rostov NPP.
The main task of the SDPP is to maintain the operation of power unit safety systems in case of primary power supply break down. In the mode of nuclear power plant normal operation the SDPP is in continuous manning.

Before power unit commissioning the SDPP will be involved in reactor unit hot trial that is scheduled for this summer.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
