Rostov NPP: starting power unit No 4 was covered with protective paint

www.russianatom.ruA special paint coating was applied to the reactor building of Rostov NPP power unit No 4; it will protect the building from external weather impact and prevent corrosion. Now all four main buildings of Rostov NPP look the same.

Inside the starting unit, the works on the reactor assembly for the hydrotests scheduled for the end of June proceed to completion. Within the preparation of the reactor primary circuit equipment for the hydrotests, all four main circulating pumps (MCP) were tested by experts at idling.

In the course of this technological operation, the MCP vibration indexes control and heat monitoring with temperature measurement were carried out; all the parameters were satisfactory.

The beginning of the hydrotests, in fact, is the final part before the finish line in preparation for the power unit physical launch.

During the hydrotests, a pressure of 35 kgf/sq cm will be created in the reactor unit primary circuit, and then a pressure of 20 kgf/sq cm will be created in the secondary circuit. These parameters are necessary to check the assembly quality of the reactor and the process pipelines.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
