Rostov NPP: Volgodonsk has become the territory of qualitative education and personnel training for nuclear power industry in Russia and abroad
Within the 13th International scientific and practical conference “Nuclear power safety” in Volgodonsk training unit of Rostov NPP a round table on a topic of Problems and Perspectives of Practical Training of Foreign and Russian Students at the NRNU MEPhI Resource Center took place.
“Today nuclear power industry is a branch of innovative development that requires fundamental knowledge and highly trained specialists. Rostov NPP’s employees have worked hard to prove the safety of nuclear power industry and increase the comunity trust in nuclear power industry. Evergrowing orders including the orders from abroad for training of nuclear power industry personnel in our institute is another factor of trust. Trained personnel is one of the conditions of enterprise’s safety provision. The more attention is given to the safety, the better is the sleep of Volgodonsk citizens”, opening the meeting the Head of Volgodonsk Town Duma – Town Mayor Lyudmila Tkachenko noted.
Volgodonsk Engineer and Technical Institute NRNU MEPhI has become a strategic partner of nuclear power enterprises and reliable source of its personnel reserve – this is what the participating in the event specialists of Rosatom SC, Rosenergoatom Concern, Rostov NPP, AEM-tekhnologii JSC, Atommash and other enterprises of Volgodonsk talked about.
In addition, the Institute’s Resource Centre successfully trains foreign students. In 2016, 64 students from Vietnam, 16 master students and postgraduates from Jordan underwent the training; in these April-May the training of 59 students from Vietnam and Mongolia has been carried out; the educational internship for master students of NRNU MEPhI from eight countries – Jordan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Chili, Indonesia, the Republic of South Africa, Armenia, Bulgaria – will start in June.
In addition, a brand new roadmap of education is developed for each training group.
“Today Volgodonsk is the territory of a high-quality education”, the VETI NRNU MEPhI Head Valentina Rudenko emphasized in her speech. Practice oriented training of foreign and Russian students in the Resource Centre of the VETI NRNU MEPhI is really close to the conditions of actual labour functions of personnel exercising qualitative and safe operation of power entities in Russia and abroad. The Volgodonsk Institute together with mechanical, electric and energetic units of Rosatom participates in creation of two Personnel Training Industry Centers.
Following the results of the round table the resolution with offers aimed at the further increase of personnel training quality for the nuclear power industry enterprises was adopted.
The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
