Beloyarsk NPP: the representatives of the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federation highly estimated the unique Russian technology of fast reactors
Within the framework of the 10th Regional Public Forum-Dialogue Nuclear Energy. Technologies of the future – reducing the burden on the environment representatives of the Federation Council, deputies of the State Duma, members of the Public Council of Rosatom State Corporation, the Government of Sverdlovsk Oblast, environmentalists, and public figures took part in a technical tour to Beloyarsk NPP.
They also took part in the round table, where they heard reports on the safety of BN reactor power units, the annual report on the environmental safety of Beloyarsk NPP, and information on the social policy of the nuclear power plant.
The guests were impressed with the information received. A member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Aleksey Dmitrienko, “What we’ve seen today confirmed that the Beloyarsk NPP’s technologies are leading, safe and promising. They are the future of nuclear industry.”
A member of the State Duma Committee on Energy Gennadiy Sklyar, “On 11 July we will discuss the prospects of a new generation nuclear energy technologies in the State Duma; and the deputy corps should be acquainted with what is being developed in the country. I will be able to explain that the prospects come from fast neutron reactors. I myself am from Obninsk, which is the scientific supervisor of the entire fast reactor program. In the early 80s, when we discussed the future of this direction, it was hard to believe that our generation could see it as a real major contribution to the country's energy system. At Beloyarsk NPP I got convinced that it had been done, and we are dealing with a serious project that determines the future of the energy sector in Russia and all around the globe.”
The President of the Russian Green Cross, an Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the Deputy Chairman of the Public Council of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Baranovskiy, “I am shocked and proud in the good sense that we have such a complex consisting of BN-600 and BN-800. As a Russian citizen I’m proud of the achievement our country has made.”
A member of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship Andrey Vetluzhskikh, “My impressions are – it’s safe, modern, has excellent personnel training programs and high level of social protection. The prospects for fast neutron plants development are large both in Russia and abroad. We are proud of our nuclear industry.”
The visit to Beloyarsk NPP was completed by a sight-seeing tour around the town of Zarechnoye (Sverdlovsk Oblast), where the guests got acquainted with the nuclear specialists’ investments in the social development of the town using the ‘atomic billion’ from the construction of power unit No 4, ‘atomic money’ from additional taxes from the agreement between Rosatom and the Governor of the Oblast , social projects financing with ‘atomic grants’ and targeted charitable support of socially significant areas. The participants of the visit have seen the reconstructed swimming pool Neptune of the Olympic Standard, the Youth Theatre with the 3D-cinema, Aleschenkov Boulevard, the Desantnik sports school ... The new buildings of the modern 2nd microdistrict built on the nuclear industry mortgage program impressed the guests. The excursion ended at the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God that was built also with assistance of Rosenergoatom Concern.
The Beloyarsk NPP has come into operation in April 1964. The first power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 has been closed after the accumulated running time. The power block with a fast industrial capacity reactor BN-600 is still on. The power block with a fact reactor BN-800Н is currently being prepared for coming into operation.

From operational point of view they are absolutely safe. Engineering-breakthrough things require understanding from the perspective of 50-100 years into the future. It is impossible to move forward without this.”
