Rostov NPP is ready for audit performance in the area of environmental management system

In June, 2017 the recertification audit of environmental management system (EMS) will take place at Rostov NPP; its purpose is to confirm the compliance of the plant’s activity with the requirements of international and Russian ISO 14001 standards, as well as commitment to the principles of environmental policy.

Within the preparation to the audit fifty specialists of Rostov NPP including top management have successfully completed a course on the topic “The system of environmental management: new requirements.”

The need to improve knowledge in this area has occurred due to implementation of new standards – the international ISO 14001:2015 and national GOST R ISO 14001-2016 (Environmental management systems. Requirements and guideline).
Following the results of forthcoming audit the nuclear power plant will receive a certificate of conformity to the new standards.

Theoretical knowledge and practical recommendations from a lecturer of Rosatom State Corporation CICE&T, an expert in the field of environment Lyudmila Kozlova will surely be useful both in the process of preparation to the recertification audit, and in plant’s day-to-day operation in the area of environmental control.

The environmental management system was implemented at Rostov NPP in 2007. From that moment the nuclear power plant’s management and personnel pledged themselves to adopt the best methods of environmental management in accordance with international and national standards in the field of environmental management.

The fact that Rostov NPP has certificate of conformity with the requirements of international and national standards proves the nuclear power plant’s committal to the ideas of environment protection.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
