A Project Office was established at Kursk NPP-2 to effectively manage the construction of the replacement plant

To effectively and flexibly manage the construction of the power units No 1 and 2 at the site of Kursk NPP-2 replacement plant, the “Achieving the key event of ‘initial concrete’ during the construction of Kursk NPP-2” Project Office was established.

It consists of the customer (Rosenergoatom Concern) representatives and the General Contractor represented by Atomstroyexport Engineering Company JSC (ASE EC JSC).

As the Kursk NPP Manager Vyacheslav Fedyukin noted, the subject of the Project Office’s weekly work by the means of videoconferencing is a preliminary review and decision elaborating on all the key problematic issues of the construction - from the issuance of working documentation and budget limits to the actual work organization, its quality monitoring, etc. This increases the efficiency response to the needs of the construction, reduces the time spent by all the construction participants on the decision-making. The structure of the Project Office includes five working groups engaged in the main areas of construction.

First time the effectiveness of the Project Office was demonstrated on 25April, 2017, during the meeting of the Regular Site Office of the KuAES-2 power units No 1 and 2. It was short, without time consuming issue handling that had been previously discussed in the Project Office format.

As reported at the Site Office meeting, the assembly of power transformers goes in accordance with the schedule, and the assembly of the other type transformers – PS330 – has already been completed. The auxiliary 10/0.4 kV transformers’ foundations have been delivered at the site of the “General Plant Unit Building” project. The installation of metal structures of the second stage pumping station framework in the water abstraction intake system has also been finished.

According to the schedule, there are also preparations for the installation of the automated steam block-modular steam shop and the installation of metal structures of the “Workshop with the Forge” project going on. The construction and installation of the Stroiploschadka outdoor switchyard (SWYD) of 330 kV and its connection to 5TP HV of 330 kV also go according to the schedule. The installation of sand and gravel cushions under the first and second power units foundations is in the process.

The Kursk NPP-2 is a replacement station for the currently operating Kursk nuclear power plant’s power blocks taken out of service. The operational launch of the first two NPP-2 power blocks is planned to be synchronized with the running nuclear power stations’ power blocks taken out of service.
