In the middle of October, 2013 on the Smolensk nuclear power plant was made stocking of the Desnogorsk water storage basin by vegetable species of fish. Release of fishes took place on the balneary water area. This day 15865 pieces of white cupid in total weight of 3300 kg were issued.

Stocking of the water storage basin was made according to plan, according to recommendations about artificial reproduction of water biological resources on stocking of a reservoir cooling agent of the Smolensk nuclear power plant by herbivorous species of fish: white cupid, silver carp.

Cupid and silver carp destroy the main enemy of a pond cooling agent of the nuclear station - the blue-green algas which excessive distribution worsens heat exchange and reduces profitability of power units. On small fishes reclamation experts the responsible and important task lies – to help electricity generation. During the long-term program of biological melioration implemented on the Smolensk nuclear power plant in the reservoir cooling agent more than 120 tons of herbivorous fish were issued. Lump of water vegetation was reduced that confirms monitoring of a condition of the water storage basin.

Biomeliorative works on the Smolensk nuclear power plant take place annually. It provides optimum stations for water supply operational characteristics of a reservoir cooling agent.

The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". SAES annually issues in a country power supply system on the average about 20 billion kilowatts of hours of the electric power that constitutes about 13% of the energy developed in Rosenergoatom concern, and more than 80%, the Smolensk region made by the power entities.
