The drainage pool of the second of two coolers erected for power unit ?1 at the Leningrad NPP-2 will be tested for integrity and tightness. In total, the pool basin will be filled with about 25,000 cubic meters of water.

"Actions that will ensure trouble-free and reliable operation of the cooler are being taken at the moment. The foundation and the bottom of the pool will be tested for water resistance: experts will fill an open drainage tank, which depth is 2 m, to the design level + 1.5 m, and will observe the integrity of the walls of the pool and the water level in it. The operation for setting the water will be completed before the end of June. If there are no leaks in the pool, water will be pumped into the pool of the cooler ?1 for similar hydro tests,"- said the Head of the Department of support systems Victor Afonichev.

It is important, that the concrete slab of the bottom and fenceof the drainage pool are made of hydraulic concretebecause of their constant contact with water, it serves as the basis of portlandcement, characterized by high water resistance, frost resistance, compressive strength and tensile. After the hydro tests the bottom and the inner and outer surface of the pool fencing will be covered by a special waterproofing forprotecting them against leaks.

The quality of all works performed on the constructions and systems of water distribution pipeswill be controlled, all the tests envisaged by the project and regulations will be made before putting the cooler into operation.

The Leningrad NPP-2 is a part of activities’ long-term program of the State Corporation "Rosatom".

The Rostekhnadzor issued a license (? GN-02-101-2277) for the installation of the power unit ?1 at the Leningrad NPP-2 (valid - till 03.31.2018) and a license (? GN-02-101-2276) for the installation of the power unit ?2 at the Leningrad NPP-2 (valid - till 07.14.2019) on February 12, 2010.
