The volume of assembled basic systems of reactor compartment and turbine house of power unit No 4 under construction is 80%. Volgodonsk atomic scientists are preparing for the important operation on the assembled equipment – a system flushing on the open reactor in the course of which the assembled pipeline flushing of plant safety system and normal operating system is executed. The Plant Manager of Rostov NPP Andrey Salnikov told about this when summing up the year 2016.


He noted that in 2017 it is necessary to finish assembly works, conduct a complex of tests and start the nuclear fuel loading.

“In 2017 we are going to begin starting operations. It is pointless to name any dates because unit start is a challenging task. But the quality of construction, the quality of assembly and the quality of commissioning events are on the first place. We are planning to begin starting operations on power unit No 4 in the end of 2017”, Andrey Salnikov said.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
