Rostov NPP Stops Power Unit 1 for Maintenance Works

On May 5 Unit 1 of Rostov NPP was stopped and disconnected from the electrical power system for carrying out the scheduled works on maintenance and technical inspection of the basic facility.

According to the 2012 maintenance schedule of power units duly approved by the operating organization Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, and standards and regulations requirements in effect in Russian Federation, the routine testing of the reactor compartment containment and safeguarding equipment of the unit technological systems will be carried out.

Due to the special responsibility of relief valves in systems safety ensuring, their technological parameters as well as their compliance with the standards and regulations requirements of technical, technological and industrial safety will have to be confirmed during the technical examination. The maintenance works are scheduled to be carried out within six days, after which the first power unit will again be included in the grid. 

Power Unit 2 operates at the capacity corresponding to the dispatched schedule.
There have no been any changes of the radiation background in the area of the nuclear power plant’s location.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
