Reactor vessel for the power unit ?4 arrived at the Rostov NPP

The reactor vessel for the Rostov NPP power unit ?4 arrived to Volgodonsk on special peer of the branch "AEM - Technology" "ATOMMASH" (part of Rosatom) on June 20, 2015, where it was delivered to the construction site of the power unit ?4 of the Rostov NPP on the night of June 21.

Within 22 days the reactor vessel was transferred from St. Petersburg to Volgodonsk. The special cargo weighing 320 tons descended from the conveyor of the "Izhora Plants" (St. Petersburg) and was loaded on the river tug "Bright" and sent to a "permanent place of registry" on May 29.

"The total length of this road on the rivers Neva, Moscow, Volga and Don is about three and a half thousand kilometers. The most difficult part was in Tsimlyansk reservoir, where it had to ride out the storm. However, the reactor vessel was delivered on time, according to the terms of the "road map" - said the representative of the carrier - the deputy director of the "Infotek-Baltika M" Victor Alexandrov about the waterway of the reactor vessel.

"This is the second reactor vessel, which our special peer takes for the Rostov nuclear power plant - in 2013 we made similar equipment for the third power unit. Development of the Rostov nuclear power plant, in fact, is giving the second life for the city - in the first place there are new jobs both at the nuclear plant and the branch of the JSC "AEM - Technology" "ATOMMASH", which entered the structure of the Rosatom. Now our company is also preparing series of high-precision equipment for the power unit under construction ?4", - Sevostyanov Alexander, a leading expert of the branch JSC "AEM - Technology" "ATOMMASH", explained the significance of the event

The reactor vessel was overloaded on the special platform truck from the barge and once city traffic stopped, tractors delivered it to the Rostov nuclear plant. Ensuring of safe passage of the special cargo on its route was provided with special equipment which turned off and raised trolleybus lines. Moving of the platform truck with the reactor vessel was carried out at a rate of not more than five kilometers per hour, the path from special peer to the NPP took about five hours.

The fourth power unit is preparing for acceptance and installation of the reactor pressure vessel. "Once the static tests of the polar crane will be carried out - its main lift is 370 tons, we will proceed to the installation of all heavy equipment of the reactor compartment, including installation of the reactor vessel," - said the Director of Volgodonsk branch of the JSC "Sesame" Oleg Shulyar about the upcoming progress.

Start-up of the power unit ?4 of the Rostov NPP is scheduled for 2017.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 Р in December, 2010. Physical launch of the power unit ?3 was in November 2014, energy launch - un December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
