On June 22, 2011 the ТCandleУ action, devoted to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, was held at the initiative of the city Public Chamber and Novovoronezh NPP youth organization on the Day of Memory and Grief. At four oХclock in the morning the participants of the Great Patriotic War, enterprises and public organizations representatives and citizens gathered near ТStar of GloryУ memorial. The gathered people lit the candles from the eternal flame of ТStar of GloryУ memorial to honour the memory of those who died defending the Native country.

The memorial events in the atomistsХ city were continued by a meeting of Novovoronezh citizens, lying of wreath and flowers to the memorial, devoted to the soldiers of rifle division No. 141 and the soldiers-townsmen, the demonstration of a feature film called ТBrest FortressУ in the city cultural centre. The NPP employees, representatives of atomistsХ youth organization took an active part in the event.

City Duma Deputy, Engineer on NV NPP 5th power unit turbine management Valentina Kudryavtseva noted: ТThe Day of Memory and Grief, ТThe Minute of SilenceУ and ТCandleУ actions, traditionally held on this day, are the proof of our deep appreciation and gratefulness to the generation of veterans, who gave away their lives for the sake of ours, for everything they done for us, our children and grandchildrenУ.

On the Day of Memory and Grief the veterans took part in the theme conversation ТMemory BurnsУ held in the city library. Meetings with the veterans in childrenХs clubs domiciliary were organized as well.
