Novovoronezh NPP: the January plan has been overfulfilled by 20.08 %

In January, 2011 Novovoronezh NPP generated 604.008 mln kWh of electric power. The target for electricity production of the Russian Federal Tariff Service (FST) was fulfilled by 120.08 %. 547.543 mln kWh of electric power were supplied to the energy system being equal to 123.88 % of the plan.

The utilization factor of maximum capacity in January was 44.27 % (the target figure being 36.86 %).

In January, 2011 power units Nos. 3 and 4 of Novovoronezh NPP operated in the standard conditions, power unit No. 5 was shut down in September, 2010 in order to carry out works aimed at its lifetime extension.

In January, 2011 there were no violations of limits and conditions of the plant power units safe operation. According to the automated control system, the radiation situation in the area of Novovoronezh NPP location and in the 30-km control area does not differ from the natural environmental background and corresponds to the long-term natural radiation values typical for this area.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don River, 42 km to the south of Voronezh. This is the first Russian NPP with VVER-type reactors (pressurized water reactors of the vessel type using light pressurized water). Each of the five plant reactors is the main one Р a prototype of serial power-producing reactors: power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, power units Nos. 3, 4 with the VVER-440 reactors and power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor.

At present three power units are in operation (power units Nos. 1, 2 were shut down in 1988 and in 1990 respectively).

Detailed and timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
