November 2 - Novovoronezh secondary school No.5 opened the renovated gymnasium after the basic repair. This event was long-expected, because for many years the gymnasium has been in disrepair.

At the solemn ceremony, among a lot of honorary guests, there were present the managers, who made this event possible due to the joint fruitful activity: Yuri Pegusov, Head of the city, Sergey Chestikin, Head of Novovoronezh Administration and Vladimir Povarov, Chairman of the Council of managers of enterprises and Director of Novovoronezh NPP.



ТThis sports facility is a vivid implementation of those positive events, which happen in the city of Novovoronezh,У told in his speech Vladimir Povarov. ТThe nuclear power plant and Administration of the city joined efforts in order to let children do sports in good conditions. I think that new sports achievements now are not far off.У

The gymnasium of School 5 has become the final project of implementation of the joint program of the city Administration and Novovoronezh NPP, ТSafe Sports to the Children of the CityУ, which started in 2010.

Looking back, in 2010 General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Sergey Kiriyenko, and Alexey Gordeyev, Governor, signed Agreements on the Cooperation between the government of the Voronezh region and State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. The document provides for the joint implementation of a number of programs not only to ensure safe operation of nuclear facilities on the Voronezh region territory, but also to give social support, including sports, to the population.



The result of this program is reconditioned sports gym halls of all schools. ChildrenХs sports safety provided for not only high quality of the work performed, but also use of safe materials.

The repair of the fifth schoolХs gymnasium does not put an end to the support of the childrenХs sports by nuclear engineers. Next year there will start a joint project of reconstruction of school athletic fields.

As Natalya Korneyeva, international master of sports and leaver of School 5, told at the opening ceremony of the gymnasium, the Olympic champions did their first steps on the school athletic fields and at gymnasiums.

After the official part, there took place a beautiful sports festival. Ballroom dance school students, sports tumblers and artistic gymnasts, karatekas and athletes of judo wrestling from the ChildrenХs and Youth Sports School showed their skills.



Sports at the industry enterprises are an integral part of nuclear engineersХ life.

Novovoronezh is well-known to fans of elite sports. The achievements of power men distinguish the school of Novovoronezh in a variety of sports. These are track and field and carting, basketball and motorsports, diving and karate, and many others. Athletes of the nuclear engineersХ city won the Olympic Games and world championships, and they got accustomed to climbing the victory podium at the championships of Russia. Not once Novovoronezh was recognized as the most ТsportiveУ city of the Voronezh region. Employees of Novovoronezh NPP make a significant contribution to the collections of sports achievements of the native city.

 According to the State Sports Committee, the average life expectancy of employees of the nuclear industry is 7-8 years longer than of workers of other industries. The reason for that is not only the great attention paid to health protection of nuclear engineers, greater social security and stability, good salaries, regular medical check-ups, but also the systematic regular exercise of the majority of employees of the nuclear power plants and their children.
