Novovoronezh NPP has successfully passed the WANO Technical Support Mission

Experts of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Р the representatives of the WANO Moscow Centre Р have visited Novovoronezh NPP with a Technical Support Mission. The purpose of the visit is the exchange of experience in controlling methods for activated crud accumulation and equipment corrosion condition of the NPPХs primary circuit.

The WANO experts have worked in the facilities of Novovoronezh nuclear power plant chemical shop for 4 days Р from 3 to 6 April.

ТThe Technical Support Mission is carried out on a voluntary basis on Novovoronezh NPPХs initiativeУ, the WANO Moscow Centre Advisor Galim Musin commented. ТThe experts from Khmelnitsk and Rostov NPPs took part in it, as well as the experts from VNIIAES JSC. Our purpose is a search of ways to improve certain areas; in this case itХs chemistry. After the Mission ends, the experts will elaborate the recommendations that will be useful for Novovoronezh NPP.У

ТI am very glad for Novovoronezh NPP because its personnel have succeeded in achieving really epic event Р to put the first new generation power unit of NPP-2006 series into industrial operationУ, the WANO Moscow Centre Advisor Evgeniy Khromovskikh said. ТThis is a significant event as Novovoronezh NPP continues its tradition to put the first ever VVER type power units of new series into operation, always staying ahead of the times. Now the power units of this type are being under construction at Leningrad, Belarus, Baltic NPPs; and all the nuclear specialists will look at the experience of Novovoronezh NPP operation, come here to adopt their experience.У

According to Cooperation Plan on Novovoronezh NPP and the WANO Moscow Centre in 2017 it is planned to carry out another three Technical Support Missions of WANO on the following topics: ТEquipment and means of operationУ, ТRoot causes determination and effective remedial action developmentУ, ТNon-admission of foreign objects into the decompressed equipment.У

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one Р a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second Р in 1969, third Р in 1971, fourth Р 1972, fifth Р 1980. There are three power units (power units No.1, 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively) in work at the moment.

The power units Nos 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively. The power unit No 3 was stopped in 2016 for decommissioning activities. The power unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 was commissioned on 27 February, 2017. The power unit No 2 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 is in the middle of construction and installation works; its commissioning is planned for 2018.
