Kursk NPP: over 40 years of operation more than 857.7 billion kWh of electric energy is produced

By its 40th anniversary Kursk NPP managed to generate 857 billion 784 million KWh of electric energy recorded since the beginning of operation in 1976.

The collective of employees celebrated the anniversary by executing the annual plan of electric energy generation and supply on 16 December. By 18 December the annual target generation goal set for Rosenergoatom Concern was reached. It amounted 26.148 billion kWh of electric energy. 2016 production forecast predicts 27.45 billion kWh.

The first nuclear power plant power unit in the Kursk region was included in countryХs energy system on 19 December, 1976. Then, in 1979, 1983 and 1985 the second, third and fourth power units have been sequentially put into operation.

Kursk NPP is the largest electric energy power source in the Central Russian Upland with an installed capacity of 4 million kW. Its energy is supplied to the Center integrated power system for consumption in 19 regions of Russia.

From 1994 to 2009 Kursk NPP power units underwent profound technical modernization that would allow them to operate safely up to and including 2021 - 2030. Since 2013, Kursk NPP has been successfully implementing key recovery projects resource characteristics of the operating power units.

Kursk NPP has demonstrated the constant high productivity for a number of years, starting in 2010. At the same time its production has repeatedly reached one historic high after another.

In 2015, the Kursk nuclear power plant generated 29 billion 709.8 million kWh of electric energy. It is more than ever in the company's history.

Today every sixth kilowatt per hour of electric energy that the power plants in Russia produce comes from Kursk NPP. In terms of quantity of energy production it is the second largest nuclear power plant with great working lifespan in the country subsequent only to Leningrad NPP.

At the moment, the Kursk NPPХs 1st, 2nd, and 4th power blocks operate at the capabilities set by the dispatch schedule.
The radiation background at the Kursk NPP and the area around it is within the normal power blocksХ operational limits and does not exceed the natural background.
