Kola NPP: visit of experts of IAEA

On March 12-14 the visit of representatives of the International Agency on atomic energy took place on Kola NPP.

It is the preliminary visit preceding carrying out the mission of OSART IAEA on the Kola NPP. It is planned for November, 2014.

Mission of OSART (Operational Safety Review Team) is an independent assessment of operational safety of the nuclear power plant. Missions are carried out by experts in the field of atomic energy of member countries of IAEA. It is a professional "look from outside" at the work of concrete nuclear station which will help to estimate objectively the level of the general safety, will allow to give an impartial assessment of reliability of enterprise work with a sight on further development and improvement of safety of all nuclear power plants in the world.

The head of the section of nuclear safety Department of the International agency Miroslav Lipar (Slovakia) has headed the work of expert group.

As the director of the Kola nuclear power plant Vasily Omelchuk noted, carrying out the forthcoming mission of OSART is approved by Rosatom State corporation and Rosenergoatom Concern. "As a main objective of mission of OSART Рis the improvement of NPP safety on the basis of IAEA standards, we are always open for cooperation", - V. V. Omelchuk told.

The inspection during the mission of OSART will capture the following activities: "Management, organizational structure and administration", "Training and qualification", "Operation", "Maintenance and repair", "Technical support", "Use of operational experience", "Radiation protection", "Fire safety", "A chemical mode", "Management of severe accidents".
