Kalinin NPP: Targeted Inspection of VMTU of Rostekhnadzor

November 6-8 Р VMTU of Rostekhnadzor (Volzhsk Interregional Territorial Administration for Supervision of Nuclear and Radiation Safety) carried out a scheduled targeted inspection in the area of ТAbidance by Rules and Regulations in Nuclear Energy during the Maintenance and Repair of Equipment of the Systems Important to Safety (SIS)У at Kalinin NPP.

The purpose of the inspection was to check the compliance with the requirements of rules and regulations in the organization of operation of electrotechnical and thermomechanical equipment of SIF at Kalinin NPP.

The inspection was conducted by the Committee of Volzhsk Interregional Territorial Administration for Supervision of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Oversight (Rostekhnadzor). The chairman of the Committee was G.A. Malakhov, State Senior Inspector of the Department for Supervision of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Nuclear Installations, VMTU of Rostekhnadzor.

The inspected were the following subdivisions: the Department for Preparation and Carrying out of Repairs, reactor, turbine and electric shops, and subdivisions, involved in the preparation and carrying out of maintenances and repairs. The equipment of Unit 1 has become an example for the consideration within the inspection subject, where the scheduled thorough overhaul was completed on November 4.

During the inspection, it was found that the maintenance and repair of the systems important to safety were carried out in accordance with the requirements of the federal regulations and industrial sector norms at Kalinin nuclear power plant, and during the works there was provided the required safety level. The areas to be improved noted by the Committee were related to the operations documentation execution.  

The targeted inspection results are stated in the final act submitted to Kalinin NPP management.  

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsky district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
