At Kalinin NPP Turkish students had a look at advanced Russian technologies in the field of nuclear energy

A group of about 30 Turkish second-year students receiving a degree in ТNuclear Power Plants: Design, Operation and EngineeringУ at the MEPhI National Research Nuclear University have visited Kalinin NPP.

Technical tours to operating NPPs are carried out within the framework of Akkuyu NPP specialist training program according to the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of the nuclear power plant.

The visit program included a visit to the plantХs facilities, machine halls of the Phase I and II, power unit control panels, expositions of Kalinin NPP Public Information Center. The students visited the plantХs training department, where they were shown a full-scale simulator Рa prototype of the main control room of operating power units, where the nuclear plant operational personnel are trained.

ТSuch technical tours are very important for the process of teaching students. They allow them not only to get acquainted with the principles of the plantХs operation, technology and equipment, but also to meet with the employees, to study the specifics of the NPPХs operationУ, the Shift Supervisor of the NPP Valeriy Feshchukov noted.

The project for the construction of Akkuyu Р the first nuclear power plant in Turkey Р is being implemented on the basis of the Intergovernmental Agreement signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey in Ankara on 12 May, 2010, and it provides for the construction of four VVER type reactors with a capacity of 1,200 MW each. After commissioning, the plant will cover about 7% of the total energy consumption in the country.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
