A key stage of the first unit No 1 under construction preparation for cold and hot trials has been completed at Leningrad NPP

At Leningrad NPP, the first stage of energizing the power unit No 1 under construction with the auxiliary voltage of 330 kV was completed. As a result, the permissible power of consumption has increased by more than 60%, and amounted to 40 MW.

Andrey Morozov, the Head of the Electrical Shop of Leningrad NPP under construction, ТThe voltage is supplied from an external source to the Secondary Distribution Switchgear of 330 kV, and is transferred to reserve auxiliary transformers. After that, the voltage is distributed according to the construction scheme to all the unitХs power supply systems.У

As Aleksandr Rudnik, the Deputy Chief Engineer for CPCS of Leningrad NPP under construction, explained, this key event was another step in preparation for the VVER-1200 power unit No 1 commissioning. ТThe supply of this auxiliary voltage is a mandatory requirement to start the primary circuit cold and hot trials Р the main stage of the commissioning that includes the tests of the reactor plant equipment operation in design basis conditions Р at the operating parameters of the pressure and temperature.У

ТThe preparation for operational voltage supply to the facilities of the first power unit was long and big; and it was conducted in accordance with the schedule. More than a hundred employees of Sosnovoborlectromontazh JSC (CONCERN TITAN-2 JSC) and Atomtekhenergo JSC performed a significant amount of electrical installation and commissioning works on the main electrical equipment of the power distribution scheme and the power unit. The nuclear plant operational personnel have put the electrical equipment into operation safely and have been maintaining all the necessary modes of its operationУ, the Deputy Head of the Electrical Shop of Leningrad NPP under construction Vladimir Artamonov said.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
