Rosenergoatom: in April electric energy generation of Russian NPPs rose by 8.85%

In April, 2017 Russian NPPs (branches of Rosenergoatom Concern) increased the total electric energy generation by 8.85% compared to the same period in 2016.

The total generation of all the Concern’s NPPs in April amounted to about 16.018 billion kWh (as compared to 14.715 billion kWh generated for the same period in 2016).

From the beginning of 2017 the Capability Utilization Factor (CUF) has been 88.9%.

The total energy generation by all nuclear power plants in Russia in 2017 has been more than 72.47 billion kWh (as of 4 May, 2017). It exceeds the FAS balance on 2.23 billion kWh.

It is to be recalled that in 2016, Russian NPPs exceeded the results of 2015 increasing the total generation by more than a billion – to 196.367 billion kWh (as compared to 195.214 billion kWh a year earlier).

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia approved the plan for electric energy generation for Russian NPPs in 2017 in the amount of 199.8 billion kWh.

At present time, Russian NPPs produce about 18.3% of electric energy of the Country.

The Rosenergoaton Concern (the power division of the Rosatom State Corporation) includes 10 Russian nuclear power stations bearing the status of the Concern’s affiliate companies, along with the vendors catering for the needs of the generation company. All in all, the 10 nuclear power stations operate 35 power blocks* (*excluding the Novovoronezh NPP’s 6th power block being at the pilot production stage): 18 of them operate VVER reactors (12 VVER-1000 power blocks and 5 VVER-440 power blocks of different modifications); 15 of them with channel reactors (11 power blocks with RMBK-1000 reactors, four power blocks with EGP-6 reactors); and 2 power blocks with fast neutron sodium cooling reactors (BN-600 and BN-800).

At the moment, the Rosenergoatom NPPs account for 18.6% of the whole electricity output in the
country.
