09.06.2021  THE INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATION DEPARTMENT OF NOVOVORONEZH NPP

Scientific development of Novovoronezh nuclear scientists was awarded the first prize of the international competition of Minenergo of Russia

Joint project of Novovoronezh NPP (a branch of Rosenergoatom, part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom), Rusatom Automated Control Systems JSC (RASU JSC, part of Rosatom State Corporation) and IF SNIIP ATOM LLC for the development of an operator support system (OSS) was awarded the first prize at the International Competition of Scientific, Technical and Innovative Solutions aimed at the development of the fuel, energy and extractive industries in 2021.

OSS is based on the principle of reducing the workload on personnel and, as a consequence of this, increasing the level of reliability and safety of the power unit. OSS transmits to the operating personnel summarized information about the current state of the NPP unit in all modes of its operation, warns of possible dysfunctions and predicts options for personnel actions 30 minutes ahead.

“The Operator Support System (OSS) developed and tested at Novovoronezh NPP will increase the safety and competitiveness of modern Russian designs of nuclear power units in the foreign nuclear power market,” noted Vladimir Povarov, director of Novovoronezh NPP.

“The OSS project is huge and complex; it covers 360 technological systems, 157 interactive procedures in accordance with emergency operational documentation. So far, technical requirements for the creation of the system have been developed, agreed and approved, a set of tests has been carried out, the main solutions and software have been validated, an industry standard has been developed, and we have started a pilot implementation at the first unit of NV NPP-2," said Director of the Analytical and Diagnostic Systems Department of RASU JSC Anna Teleginskaya.

“The algorithms of the created intelligent system will simplify the operator's work connected with a large amount of information and focus their attention on the critical steps in power unit management,” said Maxim Tuchkov, senior shift supervisor at Novovoronezh NPP, project manager.

In 2021, 196 works from 88 organizations related to the oil and gas industry, coal and peat industries, electricity, renewable energy, pipeline transport, nuclear energy and mining were submitted to the international competition organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.

The official award ceremony of the competition will take place at the tenth anniversary of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum from 5 to 8 October 2021.
