Kursk NPP-2: Installation of the dome over the turbine building of NPU No. 1 has started

The first section of metal structures of the roof covering was installed in the design position in the turbine building of power unit No. 1. The roof truss block weighing 143 tons, 60 meters long and 13 meters wide was mounted using a Demag crane.

“The dome of the turbine building at Kursk NPP-2 consists of 8 block trusses. The heaviest of them weighs 182 tons. Installation will be carried out using Terex Demag CC8800 and Manitowoc cranes. The metal structures of the roof trusses will weigh 1,044 tons,” - explains the head of the Kursk NPP-2 Construction Department Alexey Buldygin. – “Our site has a distinctive feature: the mounted trusses are already sheathed with profiled sheet. This approach significantly reduces crane time and ensures the safety of personnel, since it is safer to cover the structure with a profiled sheet during large-scale assembly on the ground than to do so in the air."

The installation of truss blocks is carried out in several stages. First, the block is enlarged on a specially equipped site, which enables block truss assembly and provides the design geometry. Further on, the enlarged blocks of trusses undergo quality control and compliance assessment of the work and are subsequently installed in the design position on the columns of the turbine building at a height of 41.9 m.

After the installation of the truss blocks is completed, the highest elevation of the turbine building will reach 49 meters. The experts plan to complete the installation of the dome this year in May.
