Rosenergoatom: Russian NPPs increased generation by 5.3% in eight months of 2021

Nuclear power plants in Russia (branches of Rosenergoatom, part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation) for eight months of 2021 increased power generation by 5.3% in comparison with the same period in 2020.

The production for eight months of 2021 amounted to 142.9 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 1.2% higher than the balance target of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia. Electricity generation at NPPs in excess of the FAS balance target for eight months amounted to 1.7 billion kWh.

Due to the work of the nuclear power plant for 8 months of 2021, emissions of greenhouse gases into the air in the amount of more than 70 million tons were prevented.

Today, 36 power units and the floating power unit “Akademik Lomonosov” of the floating nuclear thermal power plant with a total installed capacity of 30.6 GW are in operation at 11 operating nuclear power plants in Russia. In 2021, a new power unit No. 6 of the Leningrad NPP with a PWR-1200 reactor was commissioned.

The share of Russian nuclear power plants in the country's energy balance is over 20%. Thus, every fifth light bulb in the Russian Federation is lit by the energy generated by nuclear power plants.
