The builders started concreting the lower support ring of the exhaust tower of the cooling tower of the first power unit. This is the first element in the tower structure that will serve to reinforce the structure in its lower part.

This will be followed by continuous concreting of the exhaust tower shell. Upon its completion, the cooling tower will reach a record level in Russia: 179 meters.

Concreting of the whole shell of the exhaust tower will require about 14 000 cubic meters of concrete. The mass of the finished shell will make up about 35 000 tons, and this without taking into consideration protective coating and technological systems that will be located inside the cooling tower. This can be compared to the mass of the Ostankino television tower,” – Deputy Chief Engineer at the Capital construction department of Kursk NPP-2 Rostislav Kimlik noted.

The erection of the tower structure was preceded by the installation of 100 columns of the inclined colonnade, which closed in a circle with a diameter of 151 meters. The builders took about 6 months to install them. The colonnade serves as the base of the cooling tower and will carry all the load from the reinforced concrete shell.

According to the schedule, the first unique tower evaporative cooling tower of Kursk NPP-2 will adorn the industrial landscape of the city of Kurchatov by 2024.
