Digital project to create NPP operations support system launched at Rosatom

A project to develop and integrate an information support system for NPPs has started within the framework of a digitalization program by State Corporation Rosatom and JSC Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom Energy Division).

Implementation of the information system is scheduled for the end of 2024 at nine Russian NPPs. It might eventually be used at foreign NPPs with a Russian design.

The NPP operations support system will be a single information platform that is set to unite operational maintenance and repair processes as well as engineer support and resources management. It will be integrated with other information systems by Rosenergoatom that affect operational maintenance of an NPP.

The system will allow to collect data about different objects. Among its purposes is creation of digital doubles of hardware, as well as implementation of a digital production control system: Rounds made via mobile devices, control over rounds routes etc.

The project will be realized in two stages at nine Russian NPPs. The first stage is scheduled to 2020-2023 and will include Balakovo, Beloyarsk, Kolsk, Rostov and Smolensk NPPs, and in 2023-2024, Kalininsk, Kursk, Leningrad and Novovoronezhsk NPPs will join the list.

“This project is a key element of JSC Rosatom digitalization program. Its realization will allow us to increase operations efficiency at nuclear power plants and minimize unit costs of power generation. Overall, implementation of such large-scale digital systems and their integration into a single Utilization Template will help us to become a global competence and technical consulting center within the next few years,” - Director General at JSC Rosenergoatom Andrey Petrov stressed.

“This project is an important part of our NPP Utilization Template, which is an integrated package of digital platforms, instruments and fundamental branch knowledge gained so far that ensures optimal operations at an NPP, starting with the planning stage and up to decommissioning. We plan to implement it at all Russian nuclear power plants, and possibly, in future, offer it as a new product for foreign plants to adopt, as far as foreign plants built by Rosatom according to the BOO (Build-Own-Operate) scheme are concerned, as well as offer it to other complex industrial objects,” – Deputy Director General, Director for Economics and Finance at Rosenergoatom Sergey Migalin commented.
