The international team of WANO experts started working at the Rostov NPP

A WANO support mission has commenced at the Rostov NPP in the format of an assistance visit* dedicated to the following subject: ‘Diagnostics and promoting higher safety culture standards at the NPP site’.

The WANO team is made of experts from the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, the United States, Russia and Ukraine. The international team is headed by Conrad Dube. He noted that this mission is the final one in a series of safety-related visits taking part during the last three years over all Russian NPPs and the headquarters of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company.

‘This mission will be a success if you remain transparent and open’, Conrad Dube stressed during the meeting with the NPP’s management and staff when speaking about the pre-conditions for efficient cooperation within the international support team.

Andrey Salnikov, the Rostov NPP director, told the experts about how the nuclear power plant is working now and the activities they do to foster safety standards. ‘We keep saying that the way towards safety is a never-ending one. And today we are making another step towards higher security standards’, Andrey Salnikov said to confirm the importance of this visit.

During the whole working week, the mission experts will perform walk-round checks and observations at the Rostov NPP site as well as a number of interviews with the NPP management and staff. The tool that helps to prevent human errors will receive special attention during the observations.

*An assistance visit is a critical analysis of specific safety-related operational directions that is held jointly with the nuclear power plant’s staff in order to determine an action plan to advance the safety standards.
