Kola NPP is the winner of the contest “The Leader in the Nature Protection Activity of Russia 2018”

Kola NPP is recognized as the winner of the 15th All-Russia contest “The Leader in the Nature Protection Activity of Russia 2018” in the category of “The best ecologically responsible enterprise in the area of the nuclear power industry”.

The received award proves the status of Kola NPP as ecologically responsible enterprise three years in the row; it is the evidence of the public recognition of the Plant’s achievements in the area of environmental control and rational use of natural resources.

“We pay a lot of attention to safety, especially to environmental safety. For 12 years the specialists of Kola NPP organize mass environmental campaigns at the territory of Polyarnye Zori. The waste treatment facilities are modernized to be more efficient. The oil detection system of oil-spill booms is created and tested. Kola NPP is the modern high-tech and environmentally friendly enterprise”, Kola NPP Manager Vasiliy Omelchuk noted.

According to the report of environmental safety of Kola NPP for 2017 the share of Kola NPP in emission release was 0.03% from all emissions of industrial enterprises of Murmansk Oblast, and the amount of industrial and consumer waste was less than 0.0005%. The emissions, waste water and amount of waste are ten times lower than the norms set for Kola NPP.

The environmental contest “The Leader in the Nature Protection Activity of Russia” is an annual event. It is held at the initiative of the international forum “The world experience and economy of Russia”. The jury includes the representatives of federal ministries, dedicated committees of the Federation Council and State Duma of the Federation Council of the RF, heads of the public organizations, prominent scientists and presidents of the universities. The objectives of the contest are the public encouragement of the industrial enterprises for comprehensive work that promoted the stable development of Russian economy, gain in health of population and provision of ecological safety.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of Rosatom’s largest division – the Electric Power Division). The Plant is situated 200 km South of Murmansk at the shore of Lake Imandra. It generates about 60% of Murmansk Oblast electric power. It has 4 power units with VVER reactors with capacity of 440 MW each. Kola NPP is the supplier of electric power for Murmansk Oblast and Karelia.
