The last large size equipment of the reactor building of the power unit No 2 under construction was delivered to Leningrad NPP

Leningrad NPP under construction received the equipment airlock. This is the last large size equipment for the reactor building of the power unit No 2. The valuable cargo was delivered at the town pier of Sosnovy Bor from production location of Tyazhmash JSC. The transportation of the airlock was carried out with the use of automobile and water transport.

“Equipment airlock covered a distance of 2,100 km by roads and water. In order to transport it we needed a special platform and river barge. The route from Syzran to Sosnovy Bor included Volga, Lake Onega, and the Gulf of Finland. It took 26 days. The weather condition were favourable, the airlock was delivered to the pier in time safely”, Igor Voronin, the representative of the transport-logistic holding Sovfracht JSC, told.

Equipment airlock is a localizing safety system of NPP and it separates the reactor zone from clean zone. The airlock is designed for the transportation of the fresh fuel, the removal of containers with the spent nuclear fuel and containers with radioactive waste, as well as for the transportation of the technological equipment required for the operation, maintenance and repair of the reactor unit equipment.

“In the nearest time the equipment airlock will be transported to the construction site of the LNPP-2 for carrying out the incoming inspection. The equipment will be put on its proper place after the trestle of the equipment airlock and crane assembly are completed: the airlock will be placed at the design point of +26.00 m in annular space between the outer and inner containment of the reactor building and will be welded to the embedded plate. We are planning to carry out this important assembly operation in the beginning of the next year”, Andrey Korpachev, the category 1 engineer of the Technical Supervision of Capital Construction Department of Leningrad NPP-2, summarized.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom. The Plant is located at the town of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km west of St. Petersburg on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. LNPP is the first plant in the country with RBMK-1000 reactors (thermal-neutron heat-pipe cooled uranium-graphite nuclear reactors). The NPP operates four power units with an electric capacity of 1,000 MW each. The first unit of replacement capacities with VVER-1200 reactor is at the physical start-up stage, the second VVER-1200 type unit is under construction. Rosenergoatom  JSC is the customer-developer of the project, ATOMPROEKT JSC is the general designer, and CONTSERN TITAN-2 JSC is the general contractor.
